Sonatromba
Sonatromba is modeled formally after a Classical sonata (though a bit more modest in scope, hence the “sonatina” subtitle). The first movement is a construal of sonata allegro; the second is a version of a cavatina; and the third, of a rondo. As a whole, it gives the soloist opportunities to show a variety of trumpet characteristics: arpeggios and rhythmic melodies in the first movement, lyrical long lines in the second, and percussive, fanfare-like gestures in the third.
